I had been dreaming of doing a rad shoot at the sand dunes for about three years now. When I first met
up with Michael and Shana, I had told them that I was still on the hunt for a special couple to come along with me to adventure around the dunes.
As we were planning the shoot, Shana told me that since we first talked, they had dreamed about shooting at the dunes and wanted to see if I was still up for it. I WAS SO HAPPY I ALMOST CRIED! Years of dreaming and it was finally going to be a reality.
Fast forward a few weeks, and these two troopers spent 12 hours with me total that day- 9 of which were in the car HA! You learn so much about someone when you get to road trip around and frolic through the desert together. We started our day by going to Starbucks to grab coffee and tea because what is life without caffeine? Then we headed out for Imperial CA and had a huge bag of snacks that we barely even ate. Shana went to Trader Joe's the night before and grabbed the best gummie snacks I've ever had! The car ride took like 4 hours just getting there so we of course stopped along the way and Michael got a sandwich every place we stopped (I wish I could do the same). As we got closer to the dunes we got more deep into conversation. I learned their love story, how they met and what has happened in the last 8 years of being together. We talked about our faiths and laughed so hard until our eyes were filled with tears and our stomachs had insane pains. We finally got to the dunes and these two were willing to do everything I threw at them. They even tried to do the Dirty Dancing/ Patrick Swazzy pick up pose! Such flippin troopers they were. We finished the night with in n out and it was the greatest day.
I couldn't have asked for a better couple to do this with. Michael and Shana are so open and wonderful and full of love for one another. The way they joke together made me so excited to not only be their photographer, but their friend. I absolutely cannot wait for their wedding, but until then- enjoy their love shared through the sand dunes.
